What are types of glaucoma surgeries?
Laser trabeculoplasty.
Laser trabeculoplasty is the most commonly performed glaucoma surgery and is a quick, in-office procedure. It comes in two forms: argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) and selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT).
Laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI).
LPI is a laser procedure that creates a small opening in the iris—the colored part of the eye—to allow fluid to flow more easily. It is typically used to treat closed-angle glaucoma.
Cyclophotocoagulation (CPC).
Cyclophotocoagulation (CPC) helps treat glaucoma by using a laser to reduce fluid production in the ciliary body. This procedure is often recommended for patients who have glaucoma along with significantly reduced vision.
If you have glaucoma, your provider may recommend a procedure to help improve the drainage of aqueous fluid in your eye. They will discuss your options and determine which treatment is best for managing your condition. Surgery may also reduce your need for medications and their potential side effects.
